Acrylic on antique window screen.
A very unique piece, the image is painted on a window screen about 100 years old, framed in cypress wood. There were plenty of unwanted potential canvases like this one, thrown onto the curb while gutting the historic homes of New Orleans after the flood. This is one of them.
Reclaimed and given new life as a focal centerpiece, the view through the window screen is one of the most haunted, and charming places in the french quarter, Pirate's alley.

Pirates Alley dates back to 1831, its official name is Ruelle d’Orleans.
Flanking the street to the right is a Spanish dungeon and the historic Cabildo building at the corner of Pirate's alley and Jackson Square. To the left, the St. Louis Cathedral.
The homes lining the alley were rumored to have been the places where Jean Lafitte and other pirates would stash their gold, and the scene of many a bloody duel.

The painting comes with a removable black fabric backing cloth. The black background gives it a bold appearance, and the lamp posts actually seem to glow. 'Pirate's alley' has been in 2 art shows. Many people have asked about the lights, getting inches away from the painting, convinced that there was some other light source.
You can get unbelievable, firey effects by aiming track lighting at the main light clusters!

Remove the backing, and this painting transforms... Any dark background will set it off like magic. Different colors will achieve different feels.
Against a white background, the painting is almost invisible.

This is one of my absolute favorites. You can sense something truly ethereal about it when you're close.
